Wagon Wheel - Old Crow Medicine Show

Perhaps the song that took the longest time to compose ever – Bob Dylan did the chorus and hummed the verse on a bootleg of outtakes from the soundtrack of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid and the guy from Old Crow added the verse lyrics 0ver 30 years later! Some say it took even longer, up to 85 years, as Dylan has credited the phrase "Rock me Mama" to Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, and he in turn most likely appropriated it from a Big Bill Bronzy number.

But the real strength of this song are the strangely liberating lyrics of OCMS lead Keith Secor from the opening lines

"heading down south to the land of the pines"

as he hitches his way from somewhere north, via Virginia, to his hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina, hoping to "see my baby tonight"

coupled with the folkey feel of the band led by Secor's invigorating fiddle playing.

Love this live version with all the nerds getting down; I’m with the nerds all the way to JOHNSON CITY, TENESSEE!
