Louie Louie - the Kingsmen

If not the mother, then the Auntie Val of recurring riffs: I once worked in an office with a guy called Louis. People pronounced his name in both the standard ways (Loo-iss and Loo-ee) so I asked him which he preferred. He said he didn't mind which, it was all the same to him. Faintly dismayed, I asked what his parents called him but he wouldn't be drawn. By now, slightly worried about him, I told him that there was only one way of saying Louis, and I sent him the link to Louie Louie by the Kingsmen. He listened to it in the office on his headphones and then came back to me slightly perplexed, saying he didn't understand what I was getting at.

He asked me what the words meant. I said I couldn't help him on that one. I said, that's not the point.

I told him that he should listen to it again when he got home with the volume turned up to full and he should change into something cool, preferably swimming trunks. He promised me he would.

He didn't speak to me for a week. But he's better now.
