Fairytale of New York - the Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl
On the 23rd anniversary of Kirsty MacColl's tragic death, and just 18 days after the death of Pogues lead singer Shane MacGowan, and because it's December, it seems appropriate to repost their duet on the second best Christmas single ever and perhaps the finest musical expression of the Irish emigrant experience.
Also appropriate because Shane's birthday was Christmas Day.
MacColl died young at the age of 40 in the year 2000, having been struck by a speed boat while swimming during a holiday in Mexico (see https://www.unclestylus.com/single-post/2020/05/14/my-way-home-kirsty-maccoll ), MacGowan of pneumonia at the also compraratively young age of 65.
