Gone Gone Get Away - the Romeos

Lamont Dozier started singing in high school in Detroit with a doo-wop outfit called the Counts. Perhaps wisely, they quickly changed their name to the Romeos. This was their first single, recorded with the George Braxton Band. Braxton, whose main business was real estate, had a passion for big band music and rock and roll and and set up his own Fox Records label. Braxton's dream was to unearth the "Elvis of Detroit".

Which is why a doo-wop group finds itself singing on a track that is a fusion of swing and rock 'n roll, with Lamont Dozier, pre solo Jackie Wilson, doing an extremely soulful Elvis impersonation.

It's a hot track even though it doesn't quite know what it is. We all have days like that.
